The Magic of the Bantham Swims
The Bantham Swoosh and Boomerang might be the most popular, fastest-selling swims in the UK.
Swim the Aune Estuary, running through the private Bantham Estate in Devon and finishing on one of Europe’s finest beaches. It’s shallow, clear and sandy bottomed so you might spot the local crabs cruising around the river bed beneath you.
In the final kilometre of the swim, the ebbing tide is funnelled through a narrow section of river. As the river narrows, it “Swooshes” you along at up to four times your swim speed. You will join a friendly and supportive swimming community, swim an isolated river that can only be accessed from the water, and complete an unforgettable point-to-point journey. It’s exciting, invigorating, beautiful and fun.

The Bantham Swoosh is a stunning 6km downstream swim through the Aune Estuary in South Devon. The Swoosh starts at high tide, at the top of the Estuary. You’ll swim downstream with the support of the outgoing tide and finish with a thrilling, fast-flowing “swoosh” as the tide accelerates you towards the iconic Bantham Beach.
This is perhaps the most popular river swim in the UK, and ideal for those wanting to take on a distance challenge outdoors, experience the magic of the current, and soak up the uniquely beautiful scenery during a world-class point-to-point swim.

The Bantham Boomerang is a unique “up and back” swim. It starts on the beach, swimming upstream with the incoming tide. Then when the tide turns, so do you, swooshing back to Bantham Beach. That’s two Swooshes for the price of one. Born from a sense of being at one with the water, this is much more of a journey than an event, with no fixed distance or time. This experience is something a bit different … to awaken the senses, feel the flow of the tide, and - for a few hours - to become a part of the river.
Depending on your start time, you can choose a swim duration of between 1.5 and 2.5 hours. Most people swim between 5km and 10km – it’s up to you.
