He Was Too Scared to Get In the Water – Now He’s Swimming with a Smile
How One Child Found Confidence, Safety, and Joy Thanks to Level Water
For children like Vinny, the biggest obstacle to learning to swim isn’t fear of water—it’s the lack of opportunities.
Vinny hadn’t attended any swimming lessons before coming to Level Water. Not because he didn’t want to, but because nowhere else could meet his needs. With no access to trained SEN instructors, and concerns about challenging behaviour, other venues simply weren’t an option.
But water safety is vital. And for Vinny’s family, swimming wasn’t a luxury—it was a life skill he deserved to learn.
“He needs one-to-one support to stay focused and engaged. Without that, there was just nowhere safe or appropriate for him.”
Then came Level Water. With a teaching approach designed for children with additional needs, Vinny was finally given a chance. And though he started out fearful—even clinging to the instructor for the entire first lesson—his transformation has been remarkable.
“Now he’s in the water, moving confidently with a noodle, swimming with his siblings. He’s not just learning—he’s enjoying it.”
That change didn’t happen overnight. It took skilled teachers, patience, and an environment that recognised Vinny’s potential, not just his challenges. It took a program built on inclusion.
“These lessons offer something so rare: understanding. They provide children with SEN a chance to access something that’s usually out of reach. I’m incredibly grateful.”
Every £15 raised funds one lesson like Vinny’s. One chance for a child to feel safe, to grow stronger, and to learn a skill that might one day save their life.
“Thank you for being part of this amazing project. Your support doesn’t just teach children to swim—it gives them a place to belong.”
For Vinny, and so many children like him, the water is no longer something to fear. It’s freedom, confidence, and a place to connect with family.
“There are so many children with SEN who would benefit from lessons like these. Please, help make that possible.”
